FAQ
Answers to the questions we hear most often from shipmates, coffee drinkers, and gift-givers alike.
Do you ship internationally?
At this time, standard checkout is limited to U.S. orders only. International shipping created enough logistical and platform headaches that we decided to keep routine shipping domestic.
That said, we are still happy to work with customers outside the United States on a case-by-case basis. If you would like to place an international order, reach out to us at contact@oldsaltcoffee.com and we will see what we can do.
International deliveries can also take a month or longer depending on customs, carrier conditions, and the current tariff environment.
How long does shipping take?
Coffee orders usually ship within 2 business days. Apparel, mugs, and other made-to-order items may take up to a week before they head out.
Once your order ships, delivery speed depends on the carrier and destination. We work hard to get your coffee underway quickly and keep the process moving.
Why is shipping expensive?
Shipping costs reflect real carrier rates and fulfillment expenses. We do our best to keep them reasonable, and we offer free shipping on qualifying orders over $70 after discounts.
Whenever possible, we would rather spend money on better coffee than bury costs in the product price.
Where is your coffee sourced and roasted?
Our coffee is sourced from regions including Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Guatemala, and Kona, Hawaii, then roasted in small batches in Seattle, Washington.
We focus on quality, consistency, and coffees worth hoisting a mug for.
How fresh is your coffee?
We do not warehouse large volumes of roasted coffee. Instead, coffee is roasted in small batches, and most orders go out when the coffee is only a few days off roast.
In plain terms: we are not pulling dusty bags off a shelf and hoping for the best.
What is the shelf life of your coffee?
Our coffee is best enjoyed within one year of the roast date, and ideally within one month of opening for peak flavor.
For best results, keep the bag sealed until you are ready to use it, then store it in a cool, dry place away from heat, sunlight, and moisture.
What is your strongest coffee?
Green Eyes is our strongest and darkest roast. It brews a bold, heavy-bodied cup with deep dark chocolate notes and plenty of backbone.
If you want it to hit even harder, use a slightly finer grind and a higher coffee-to-water ratio.
Do you have an espresso roast?
We do not label a specific coffee as an “espresso roast.” Espresso is a brewing method, not a separate species of bean.
Any of our coffees can be used for espresso depending on your taste. If you prefer a darker, more traditional shot, start with one of our darker roasts.
Do you offer decaf coffee?
No, we do not currently offer decaf.
Old Salt was built around strong coffee, long watches, early mornings, and the kind of cup that earns its keep.
Are your coffee beans organic?
We are not certified organic. Our focus is on sourcing high-quality coffee and roasting it cleanly and carefully.
Are your coffees ethically sourced or fair trade?
We are not currently Fair Trade certified, but we intentionally source coffees from smallholder farmers and cooperatives, with a focus on sustainability and direct relationships whenever possible.
By investing in the people who grow our coffee, we aim to support quality, stewardship, and a positive impact that lasts well beyond the harvest.
Do you offer discounts for military, veterans, first responders, or teachers?
Yes. We offer a discount through GovX ID for military, veterans, first responders, and teachers.
Some products may already be discounted, so the available rate can vary depending on the item.
Do you offer subscriptions?
Yes. Most of our coffees are available as subscriptions, and subscribers receive a discount on recurring orders.
You can choose the delivery frequency that fits your routine, and qualifying subscription totals may also receive free shipping.
Do you offer wholesale or bulk coffee?
Yes. We offer wholesale and bulk ordering for businesses, events, and larger purchases.
If that sounds like your mission, contact us at contact@oldsaltcoffee.com and we will start the conversation.
Can I return coffee if I am not satisfied?
Because coffee is a consumable product, we do not accept returns unless the item arrives damaged.
If something shows up in bad shape, contact us and we will work to make it right.
