Old Salt Coffee: Freshly Roasted Perfection
Posted onAhoy, Old Salts! If you’re here, you’re one of two types of people: (1) You’ve got impeccable taste in coffee, or (2) You’re still drinking coffee that tastes like it was brewed in the bilge water of an old Navy destroyer and you’re finally ready to join the big leagues. Either way, welcome aboard!
Let’s cut to the chase—here at Old Salt Coffee, we don’t play the “best by” guessing game. We stamp every bag with a “Roasted On” date because you deserve coffee that’s fresher than a boot recruit’s haircut. Why? Because stale coffee is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. We’re not selling beans that have been sitting around longer than your grandpa’s sea stories (and trust us, we’ve heard them all).
And while we’re at it, no, we don’t do decaf. #DeathToDecaf. If you’re looking for decaf, might we suggest a nice cup of lukewarm tap water instead or the Chair Force or is it Space Force?
Why “Roasted On” Dates? Because Expiration Dates Are a Joke
Other coffee companies slap expiration dates on their bags like it’s some kind of security blanket. “Best by December 2025!” Really? Was it roasted yesterday or during the last election cycle? No one knows. And that’s the point—they don’t want you to know. At Old Salt Coffee, we think you deserve better than the mystery meat equivalent of coffee.
When you buy our coffee, you know exactly when those beans took a spin in the roaster. Why does this matter? Because freshly roasted coffee hits its peak flavor days after roasting, and that peak only lasts a few weeks. After that, it starts losing its mojo. And you, dear coffee drinker, deserve beans that still have their swagger intact.
We’re not in the business of cutting corners, and we’re definitely not in the business of selling you coffee that’s been sitting around longer than your Chief’s sea bag from ‘97.
Where We Source Our Beans: A World Tour of Flavor
Great coffee starts with great beans. And great beans start at the source—farms that treat their coffee plants like royalty. At Old Salt Coffee, we partner with exceptional farms from around the globe. These aren’t just any farms; these are places where passion, tradition, and quality meet. Here’s where your future favorite brew comes from:
-
Canaan Estates, Brazil
Nestled in the Serra Da Mantiqueira region, this farm grows Yellow Catuai beans that taste like caramel, cookie dough, and chocolate had a delicious love child. It’s smooth, decadent, and perfect for those mornings when you need a little luxury in your life. -
Jagong Mill, Sumatra
From the Aceh region of Indonesia, these beans are bold, rich, and unapologetic. With flavors of nutmeg, herbal tones, and bittersweet chocolate, this coffee is as adventurous as a Marine on liberty in Pattaya. It’s for those who like their coffee strong enough to make their eyeballs do push-ups. -
El Vergel Estate, Colombia
Run by the Bayter family in the Tolima region, this farm produces SL28 beans with tasting notes of clove, orange, plum, and tropical fruits. It’s like taking a Caribbean vacation in a mug—minus the sunscreen and overpriced drinks. -
La Alma, Guatemala
High in the mountains of Huehuetenango, this farm grows Bourbon, Caturra, and Catuai beans with flavors of stone fruit, berry pie, brown sugar, and chocolate. It’s sweet, it’s fruity, and it’s exactly what you need to remind yourself that life is good. -
Kona, Hawaii
Grown on the volcanic slopes of the Big Island, our Kona coffee beans are as smooth and rich as the Pacific sunset. With hints of honey, toasted nuts, and a gentle citrus finish, this coffee is the crown jewel of the islands. It’s like aloha in a cup, brewed just for you.
Every bean we roast has a story, and every sip tells that story. So, the next time you hoist a mug, you’ll know you’re drinking the very best.
Why We’re Better Than Black Rifle Coffee (and Everyone Else)
Let’s talk about the other guys—ahem, Black Rifle Coffee. Don’t get us wrong, they’ve got a good thing going, but when it comes to freshness and transparency, they fall short. They use expiration dates instead of roasted-on dates, which is like saying, “This steak is good until next year.” Sure, it’s “good,” but is it fresh? Probably not. (Source: Black Rifle Coffee FAQ)
At Old Salt Coffee, we don’t hide behind vague timelines. We roast your coffee to order and ship it straight to your door. No middlemen. No warehouses. Just fresh, premium coffee that tastes like it was brewed by angels who moonlight as baristas.
Oh, and let’s not forget the flavor. Our beans are roasted to perfection, not charred beyond recognition. If you want coffee that tastes like actual coffee (not a campfire), you’re in the right place.
Premium Coffee, Premium Standards
We’re not here to just sell you coffee; we’re here to redefine what coffee means to you. At Old Salt Coffee, we believe coffee is more than just a drink—it’s a connection to history, heritage, and community. Our mission is simple: To bring Sailors together—past and present, at sea or ashore—to share their sea stories over a cup of Old Salt Coffee.
When you drink Old Salt Coffee, you’re drinking more than just expertly roasted beans. You’re supporting sustainable farming practices, providing to some great non-profits, celebrating maritime heritage, and joining a crew of coffee lovers who appreciate the finer things in life. Whether you’re hoisting a mug at 0600 to start your day or winding down after a long watch, our coffee is there to keep your standards high and your caffeine flowing.
We believe in transparency, quality, and roasting coffee that’s as bold and fearless as the Sailors we honor. That’s why every bag bears the “Roasted On” date—because you deserve to know when your coffee was roasted and that it’s as fresh as possible.

Hoist your mug, shipmates. The journey to better coffee starts here.
At both our home and our shop we are currently drinking BRC. At home a medium roast, and at the shop a dark roast. Despite being Army myself, my wife and one of the guys at the shop are sailors and I would like to give your product a try. The guys at the shop like a strong flavored coffee, and we are brewing with a classic Bunn PourOmatic. Any recommendations?
